What is a Patella Tendon Tear?
Your patella tendon attaches your knee bone to your shin and helps you straighten your leg. A strong force, such as a fall or jump or twist, can cause your patella tendon to partially or completely tear.
What are patella tendon tear symptoms?
You are likely to experience a tearing sensation and may also hear a “pop” when you tear your patella tendon. Immediately after your injury, you will be in pain and your knee will swell. Other symptoms you should be aware of include:
- A kneecap indention
- A shifted kneecap
- Difficulty walking
An appointment with an Active Orthopedics & Sports Medicine specialist should be made as soon as possible if you experience these symptoms. Your Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Active Orthopedics & Sports Medicine specialist will diagnose your injury, determine its severity and prescribe a customized treatment plan.
